In the following interview, Niki shares her personal story, offering exclusive insights into how she planned her unforgettable day!
How did you start planning your wedding? What were the first steps?
I started planning the wedding after I got engaged in Cairo, Egypt. The first priority was to pick out and secure a wedding venue that suits me and my husband's vibe. My husband and I was into the colonial theme, something that screams timeless luxury. Raffles Hotel Singapore was just that and it was a dream to hold our wedding there!
How did you know your dress was 'the one’?
When I first saw the Suma Gown launched during Mira’s SS2024, I was captivated. The flora appliqués were bold, yet subtle/soft and I felt it suit my personality really well. I was also looking for a different gown with shoulder straps for another style and look. At that time, I was just starting to plan the wedding so when the Suma gown was launched, it very timely and I went ahead to enquire about the gown with my local store. I had not tried on any gowns prior to that, so when I specifically asked for the Suma Gown from the local store, I was also kind of taking a leap of faith that the cut and fit would suit my body shape.
How did you find working with the bridal store team?
The bridal store in my country was helpful in making sure that they brought the gown in. My wedding was in early March 2024. I tried on and confirmed the gown just a shy of 2 months (in end December 2023) so it was a fingers crossed feeling all the time while waiting for the gown to come in haha! Alterations were also made perfectly to fit my body.
Advices that you would give to our future brides?
1. I think first and foremost, as a bride, it is important to know what you want or what you’re looking for. If you don’t and can be indecisive, try to come up with a mood board to gather some thoughts and feelings. Having a mood board to me is like having a virtual screen as a reminder of things I’ve come across and like for that moment, but as some time passes, when you go back to the same mood board, your feelings about a particular color/style might change. A mood board should never be exactly what you want, but more of what style and inspiration you draw from.
2. Secondly, I feel that brides should try as many gowns as they can, if possible. Quality is an important factor in a gown - the way it drapes and flows. Another point I considered to be important when picking out my gown was that I needed to be able to walk and move around in it without having to struggle. Hence I knew the Suma gown would be a perfect piece when I tried it on.
3. Lastly, take your time and plan as early as you can. I think sometimes people get caught up in the deadline to the wedding day and they’re not prepared enough. If I had managed better, I would’ve started to plan before deciding on a wedding date haha!
What was your wedding theme?
I would give it the name of Something Timeless.
